Pretty Petals

Welcome March! This is a month full of hope and springtime anticipation! My mom always told me when I was a child that "March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb." And typically, that has been true.

Today on the first of March, the lioness still rears her fearsome head. The sky has been mostly overcast and temps continue to hover around freezing. But the forecast for the week ahead indicates the lamb is on her way....full of sunshine and rising mercury.

These lovely dried rose and tulip petals are the remnants of my Valentine's Day bouquets. Still quite pretty, aren't they?

In celebration of the new month, here's a little treat from the Romantic Mr. Wordsworth...

Written in March

The cock is crowing,
The stream is flowing,
The small birds twitter,
The lake doth glitter
The green field sleeps in the sun;
The oldest and youngest
Are at work with the strongest;
The cattle are grazing,
Their heads never raising;
There are forty feeding like one!

Like an army defeated
The snow hath retreated,
And now doth fare ill
On the top of the bare hill;
The plowboy is whooping- anon-anon:
There's joy in the mountains;
There's life in the fountains;
Small clouds are sailing,
Blue sky prevailing;
The rain is over and gone!
