Old Iron

Walking through our local woods this morning was an exercise in slippery possibilities. The squelching mud made staying upright an act of faith. In the wood there are still some of these old iron fenceposts. The letters W O stand for War Office (I think). The metal post are located close to one of the Palmerston forts that form a ring around the city. Some of these forts and the woods surrounding them were used to conceal men and equipment prior to the D-Day landings in 1944.
