Yikes

I was impressed at how well Peter May had predicted the situation of a pandemic in his book Lockdown but I'd been thinking about this E.M Forster novella since the beginning of actual lockdown - I'd read it about 50 years ago but it made a profound impression on me. It was originally published in 1909, but essentially predicts the existence of something like the internet and people having lost the ability (and need) to move out of their chairs in their individual underground pod rooms since everything is provided automatically by The Machine.

Didn't own a copy as I'd borrowed it from the library - but a couple of weeks ago I found that I could buy it on Kindle for 0.72 pennies.
