Goldeneye II

A few days ago I posted a photo of a bird that friends helped me identify as a female Goldeneye. I hadn't seen one before on my many wanders along the Forth and Clyde Canal, although my cousin, who lives about two miles to the east, had seen them on his wanders. Well, today as I walked along the Canal towpath, I spotted a male of the species.

The male is easier to identify, partly because of the large yellow / gold eye but also because of the large white patch on the 'cheek'.

A wet and windy day spent mostly in front of the computer. Glad I took a break and braved the conditions as this goldeneye gave me a wee bonus.
