Whale Watching

A big first - the granddaughter was getting a one hour induction at her nursery before she begins properly (part-time) next week. So we met them both to walk along and take some snaps of the historic occasion. But tarry I could not, as I had a boat to sail to go looking for the whale. Johnny K on the helm, a man more used to the blue skies of the Aegean. You get strong winds there too, and in truth it was a bit blustery; MrK did not fluster. No whale to be seen however. But the Cap’n did make a couple of cups of tea in recompense.
Home for the neighbourhood committee quarterly meet up which was an exceedingly jovial experience. Having been attempting for years to put ourselves on the map as a discrete community with a unique history and setting (in a minor way) and promoting ourselves through Insta and Twitter, we’re now beginning to feel we’re overrun. The little beach foreshore has been trampled by so many thousands of feet that it’s become like a muddy football pitch in days of yore. We need to advertise less. That, “Welcome to Wardie Bay” sign that’s arriving in a few weeks needs amending. Keep Out!
One little aside from the ever interesting JJ ( a man who knows the politics of community groups in the bigger picture), was that a couple of years ago the big tick box was “sense of place.” Things have changed - food poverty is the number one. And may be for some time.
