Anne's Daily Encounters

Fragmentation

Three weeks onwards and we'll have general election for our members of parliament plus a new government and today I noticed this billboard close to home, with posters from the political parties we can vote for. In my constituency I can choose from 30 parties (all over the country 37 parties take part). There are 150 seats in our parliament.

The past term of 4 years we'd elected members from 13 parties into our parliament what resulted in many small fractions; allrounders they must be in order to deliver their political mandate of controlling the government.
The members of parliament who really controlled the machineries of our government, are members from larger fractions; they could focus more on their items of research than when they'd been member of a small fraction. I wish some parties would fuse in order to share strength and power and I hope that the new elects  for parliament are sincere politicians and no humbugs (we had a few too many of them the past years).
