Non prickly Prickly Pear

Saw this field of prickly pear on the way back from Lavre, you can see by the smooth leaves that it is a non-spikey variety. In NE Brazil it was mostly grown as a drought resistant animal fodder crop but here it could be that it's for the fruit.
