St Margaret’s Church, Hucking

We took the car three or so miles down the road to Hollingbourne, the next parish east of Bearsted for today’s Saturday walk.

Another splendid day with bright sunshine and clear deep blue skies tempered by a cool , gentle northerly breeze. It couldn’t have been a better day for walking up on to the North Downs and along parts of the North Downs Way, Pilgrims Way and Hucking Woodland Trust on a circular route from Eyhorne Street.

Today’s blip is of Hucking Church where we sat on a churchyard bench for lunch sheltered from the breeze and warmed by the sun. Here’s the same place in May 2018: https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/2442594554138855286

Hucking Church is, at its heart, a very old building, originating in the early Norman period around 1100ad with major modernisation taking place in the 1870s. It’s quite something to be sitting in an area where humans have been gathering and passing through for at least 1000 years and probably several thousands more.
