When the Boat Comes In

To the beach and harbour today. A bright sunny morning encouraged me to stay at the beach for a couple of hours. Even though the air had a chill there was plenty of warmth in the sunshine. The afternoon clouded over and looked a bit gloomy. It looks like our few days of sunshine may have finished.

The ship coming in is the "Highland Defender". Having looked up the vessel just now I see this was a very short visit, the ship stayed in harbour only three hours before sailing out again.

I struggled with the colours in processing this image. It seemed too blue, and the haze at sea level was not so noticeable in my recollection. I fiddled around for a while, but in the end gave up trying to alter it.

The title of the picture today was inspired by the song of the same name and a very old BBC television Series from the 1970s. (Not sure if the links will work until after the entry is posted). The boat, the subject of the song would have been a fishing boat rather than an offshore supply ship. Not too many fishing boats in Aberdeen harbour these days. In the 1970s there may have been some still based in Aberdeen, however the song refers to NE England,
