Vernacular gates

Who knew they were a thing and could be so interesting. I have my friend Finola to blame for this sudden rush of enthusiasm - yesterday she posted a very interesting blog on - yes vernacular gates of west cork. I immediately thought of this one and having to go to the Post Office, carried on a little bit further to examine it. It's a fine and fussy example full of scrolls and bolts and slapping stiles - quickly consulting the rather nice labelled drawing in said blog. It's now come adrift from its tendon and lies rather forlornly by the side of the road - the farmhouse within dilapidated and being consumed by nature.
Happy St David's Day too, all the daffs out here now,
