Lord Roscoe of Ham House

L3 Day 74 A quick trip to Ham House to see more crocuses and meet a friend. A very dull day and so cold cycling there and back. Many more people there this year than when I visited coincidentally on 3 March last year.( My blip was for that day and better than today as it was a brighter day). We listened to the garden tour which you can download to your phone, a short section about the different areas of the garden, which is very interesting . The area where the crocuses are, the Plats, were replanted in 2018. 3 of the big beds are spring bulbs and the other 3 have wild flowers for later in the year.
Interesting to hear that the recently restored building which now houses the cafe in the vegetable garden, was the Orangery. ( See part of it in the extra) This is surprising as it does not look like a typical Orangery and has always had a solid roof so you wonder how plants got much light in winter? However this was before the discovery of Photosynthesis.
The cat is called Lord Roscoe, he was adopted from a rescue organisation last March to help chase away squirrels, pigeons, mice and rats from the vegetable garden!
