If you can't beat them...

Hellebore Anna's Red

Out of our three Helleborus Anna's red is the latest flowering.   I suspect it is a fairly recent variety as the flowers are more erect than the older varieties and I have heard the breeders are trying to make ones which hold up their heads to be seen.  The lovely deep red flowers are such a contrast to the two light coloured ones we have.

Had I been lucky today's blip would have been another bird shot.  There have been quite a few reports of Goldcrests visiting gardens this year.  One, presumably the same one, has visited a handful of times over the winter.   Sadly it moves very quickly and prefers to be deep in the Osmanthus.  It has ventured as far as the bird table but not for long enough to get a focus lock on it.  I will keep trying.
