Underneath the Arches

Is an old tramway leading to a disused arsenic mine. This is part of the mineral network of old mine workings in central Cornwall. Apt because on this day in 1998, Cornwall’s last working Tin mine closed at South Crofty. I was lucky to take a trip underground in 1994. The only way to get to the mine was via a small cage lift. All engines used for towing were built underground. I remember it being very warm down there in the cavernous spaces. Absolutely fascinating
The viaduct is the second iteration at this site and was built alongside the old one. It carries a train line.
