At Mary’s Priory Church Old Malton

A quiet day in the Clark household. We both had runs this morning then indulged ourselves with coffee and crosswords/ codewords.

I had ordered some varnish to renovate a small table and received a text to say it was ready to collect. It provided an opportunity to walk Jet along the river bank in Old Malton.

It was a trip down memory lane for me as I started my teaching career in Norton just across the river Derwent from where we stopped. This is St Mary’s Priory Church built on the site of a Gilbertine Priory. This is the west front with only one of the original twin towers remaining. A friend and colleague was married here. After the ceremony the gates were tied and coins had to be thrown to the local children to allow the couple out. Not sure if this is still the case.
