Yellow Chairs

I'm hitting the bottom of the inspiration barrel when it comes to blips, but I love these new chairs which we bought recently. Out of habit, John sits in the chair on the right and I sit on the couch. Very few people sit on the one on the left which fills the hole once occupied by Ozzie's bed, because we have very few visitors and most of them are workers or repair people and don't sit down at all!  In the evening we repair to the television room.

It's funny how it takes time to establish routines like this. I think the spaces we use inside this house have a lot to do with the light. The living room is light filled in the morning and even after eight years here, we revel in the light. Our Berkeley house was quite dark and we never sat in the living room unless we had guests. The television room is quite dark and has a fireplace, so we naturally gravitate to it after dark. The single chair that was in the living room is now in here.

This house isn't large, so if we buy a new piece of furniture, it must replace an old one which has to go. We have several friends who lost their homes in the fire last year and are happy to take the old things.

The knee scooter and the forearm crutches I ordered for John arrived last night, and have proven to be so much better than the standard crutches that we've decided to keep them. They don't exactly fit into the compact furniture arrangements,  and he may not need them for very long but they definitely make his life , and therefore mine, easier.

The old crutches came in very handy yesterday when he went to get his Covid vaccination because the parking attendant saw them and directed Jim to a parking place for the disabled. The queue to enter the building parted like the Red Sea for the guy teetering up on the crutches with the red Lululemon bag hanging from one handle! Forearm crutches are much  easier to manage and take up less space.

Lacking inspiration, I'll save the knee scooter for another day....

We had some much needed rain last night and awoke to a sparkling sunny day.  Dana and Jim came by with Blake for a coffee, which has become something of a tradition, and one we look forward to. I'm trying not to hover as John careens around the house. Even if he fell as I watched through half shut eyes, there wouldn't be much I could do about it and he deserves as much independence as he can muster.

So... it's been a pretty uneventful day which is just fine with me.
