OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE

I saw this small outdoor shrine near a church in a very Latino
area not far from my house.  I believe it to be a shrine to
OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE, which "is a very powerful symbol  of Mexican identity & faith.  Her image is associated with everything from motherhood to feminism to social justice."

The original shrine is at the Basilica de Guadalupe ("River of Light") in Mexico City.  Our Lady of Guadalupe is a title given to the Virgin Mary, after she performed several miracles experienced by indigenous people.  She is also revered in many other countries in Central America.
Her Feast Day is Dec. 12th, & is a Holy Day of Obligation in Mexico.

Someone left these pink tulips in her honor.
