Online events

When lockdown began last year it took time for us to figure out what this enforced lock-in would look like and what our social lives would become. Since then, Zoom - a video service I’d never heard of - has become a verb and its market capitalisation has been hovering around $100bn for some time. With cinemas and theatre’s closed we ended up watching Almost Love and The Invisible Man (which would have been in the cinemas) via iTunes last April and those kick-started virtual events. Since then we’ve attended a whole bunch of archived theatre experiences thanks to YouTube and similar services and even a couple of live theatre performances. But events with larger groups of friends tended to be to be virtual pubs or quizzes.

Tonight we did an escape room like experience with some friends and it was a lot of fun. The whole thing is a series of clues on a website which, after the first couple, we worked out how to solve across the video conference. It was a lot of fun. Maybe we should have done this earlier.
