The Edge of the Wold

We arrived home in time to take Gus for a walk over the Knott before darkness descended. The poor lad had been sat uncomplaining in the very back of the car for three hours on the way home. We couldn't see him, because the back passenger seats were crammed with bags of clothing that Wifie was bringing home to sort. A melancholy task of going through her mother's possessions, as the house is gradually being cleared ready for new occupants at some stage in the future.

It was a grey and rainless day, but Wifie has stayed in good spirits. We caught up with the Tree Fellas and their Mum and Dad last night and again today. Gus and I had another long walk this morning up and along the cliff of the Wolds scarp.

As we drove through Harrogate on the way home, we saw two red kites circling above the town, and then another as we came over Blubberhouses. The Yorkshire introductions have been so successful, and we are seeing them now in places we have never seen them before.

And while we are on a bird theme, I strongly recommend checking out AviloverNZ's journal. She has just reached her 500th blip with a photo of a Yellowhead, one of the most special and threatened of NZ birds. She has an extraordinary passion for birds, but more than that, her evocative writing carries you with her every step of the way as she travels through NZ in search of endemic species. Her account of walking the Kepler track last week, with all the pain and joy of the experience deserves a much wider audience.
