Cambridge Dave's 2021

The Flying Pig

The Flying Pig is one of my favourite Cambridge pubs; the beer is excellent and the live music can be good. A couple of years ago, we were there with friends and I remarked to the barman whilst ordering a round of drinks that the guitarist playing with the band that night was especially good. 'You do know who he is?' was the reply. Clearly I didn't. 'He wrote 'Walking on Sunshine' and was the lead guitarist with Katrina and the Waves' , I was informed.

My blip on Wednesday described the awful 'development' around Cambridge Station. The 'Pig' is at the bottom of Station Road and is a wonderful Victorian survivor surrounded by modern office blocks. It is just hanging on and fighting for survival. It's links to Pink Floyd and the pressures from developers to demolish it are outlined here:

In a bid to see the pub through Covid and beyond, a Crowd funding campaign has been established which has raised £21K so far.
