Doodle #16 (Sunday 14th March 2021)

There were lots of odd jobs to do around the house and garden on Sunday, so no photographs apart from this one from the same doodle book as Saturday's blip. I found some notes inside, written when the book was complete early in 1968. This one was called Braddick's.

"Braddick's is the name of a garish place in Westward Ho! which is filled with fruit machines, rockers, juke boxes and various gambling machines. The flashing lights and commercial drawings in shiny plastic are, I hope, conveyed here to some extent. This is a very pop art imagery and the colours I have used are very reminiscent of such a place as Braddick's. For me, the main part of this picture is the frame design and the colouring. The girl is taken from a drawing by Julia Stone in a book about the London fashion scene. I used it because it is typical of the kind of illustration there, and is therefore a sketch taken at second remove."

Today (Monday) I have been out and about, and as I photographed a solitary swan I may turn it into a monochrome for Mono Monday tomorrow, but for now the time for The Walking Dead approaches and there is wine to pour.
