The purist from the steam locomotive fraternity would shudder at this but it is nice to see a random piece of public art in the back alleys of town.

This long planter no doubt hints at Northallerton's close proximity (14 miles) from were Stephenson's other train, Locomotion No. 1 became the world's first steam locomotive to carry passengers on a public line, the Stockton and Darlington Railway on September 27, 1825.

The Rocket became famous on the Liverpool & Manchester Railway in 1829 during the Rainhill Trials.
