Agapanthus Splitting

No, it's not some strange Yorkshire rite like carrying haybales up steep hills or keeping your rhubarb in the dark!  This week, Matthew Pottage on Gardeners' Question Time told us it was the right time to split our agapanthus.  He also said that it was not necessary to grow them in pots (oops!)  Needless to say, my bunch of said plant was seriously pot bound and Tony had to whack it with his spade before it would shift.  He then went through a series of tools: spade; fork; edger;  from the garden shed trying to do the splitting.  It took a hammer and a bolster chisel to do the job!  They are now replanted against our south facing, sunniest wall and I'm hoping they take after all that brutal surgery!  I imagine our NZ blippals don't have these problems, they grow like weeds over there.

It's been smashing to spend the afternoon in the garden.  More pots have been created out of the salvaged border, which is undergoing a makeover.  There were bees and hoverflies all over the spring bulbs and much birdsong.  You could easily forget about Covid on a day like today.  Hope you all managed to find some sunshine today.
