The Fulling Mill

Had a walk in the small town of Alresford near Winchester along the  River  Arle, a tributary of the River Itchen. Here is the  17th century Fulling Mill (now a private house) where machines containing water -powered mallets were used for the fulling or felting of woollen cloth. 
Alresford's wealth developed literally off the  back of sheep but is now better known for its watercress beds, annual watercress festival, and preserved Mid Hants steam railway (known, of course, as the  Watercress Line).
