Sanderlings

Another shot of sandies on Burray beach, but they will be off north soon to breed in the high Arctic, so this may be the last for the year A walk on the beach on the east side of Churchill Barrier #4 between Burray and South Ronaldsay, and along the east shore to Honeysgeo (extra) A 'geo' is a cove in Orkney, the word comes from Old Norse. The honey part refers to a shore plant rare in Orkney but which is sweet-smelling but I just cannot remember the name- will look it up. A bit grey today with clouds of mist pushing through- not the best day for landscapes really.
