Gigabit is coming

Some may remember the many posts I have done about our house being connected with fibre-optic Gigabit cables in 2019/2020. This EU & Bavarian State program was for those houses in the parish, 69 in total, with the slowest old copper cable connections of under 30 Mbit/s.

Now as the first parish in the whole of Bavaria, we have been awarded €1.2m by the Bavarian State to convert the remaining 916 households with fast but still old cabling, new fibre optic cables. Bavaria claims to be the leader in the EU for the digital coverage of rural areas.

The Bavarian State is very keen to get things moving and the parish is under pressure to now get it done quickly. The company awarded the contract has now plastered the parish with signage announcing it and has started an information campaign to get people to have the connection laid from the street into their houses. We were lucky that in our program, the cables were laid into the house entirely free of charge and with no obligation to sign up.

Another mixed April weather day, just the showers were snow and not rain. There is no end in sight, and it's getting a bit depressing as there is no chance of doing anything in the garden which is soaked and nighttime temperatures of around -5°C.
