Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

A scanned blast from the past

Back in 1977 Talpa and a few zoology undergraduates journeyed to Mole National Park in Northern Ghana to carry out some ecological field work.
In the main photograph I am inspecting the grid of live traps that we used to sample the small rodent population. Note the pre-war Leica camera!
One of the undergraduates was studying the ubiquitous termites. The extra shows the enormous queen in the base of a termite mound producing a constant stream of eggs. She is surrounded by small worker termites carrying off  the eggs to the nursery chambers.
