I arrived just in time...

... to see this heron flying into the large pond at the nature reserve.

I was able to get surprisingly close to take several shots. The top left shows the heron swallowing whatever it had caught in the reeds. I could just see the lump sliding down the heron's throat.

The top right and bottom shots show the bird preparing to fly off and I managed to capture a more distant shot (my extra) of the heron flying above the trees. 

A very satisfying five minutes of photography.
