Parting with our POB

We acquired the Post Office Box 21 years ago when we moved from Sydney to Bowral, and we don’t need it any longer.

But we are starting to realise how difficult it is to give up a POB. We have spent many hours trying to recall all the organisations and companies we have blithely handed it out to, and trying to navigate our way out of their clutches. We are amazed to find how difficult some organisations make it just to remove that one little POB number from your record. (To be fair, we are also developing a short list of really efficient, really helpful ones.)

Now that we look at the keys, we are surprised to see how worn and grubby they are. That’s 21 years of continuous use and wear and tear. The keys and the box are like old friends, part of our lives ever since we came to Bowral. It will be sad to say goodbye to them and to the daily ritual of collecting the mail. That’s if we ever manage to do it.
