Alveston

One of the issues with visiting villages during a pandemic lockdown is that one should really stay local for our exercise.  As a result it is inevitable that some villages will be visited more than once.  This was the case today when we decided to go back to Alveston, first visited in November.  We were pleased to discover two new things in the village, one was a tiny church, known as The Old Church of St James.  This was succeeded by the much grander St James Church built in 1837 at the other side of the village.  The smaller church still runs Thursday services from Easter until the end of British Summer Time.  See extra.

The other discovery was a rural footpath that led to the River Avon and a weir.   There was a bridge across the weir but unfortunately it was locked and fenced off.  There were cattle in the field by the path.  

There's another zoom talk by the Aston Cantlow Local History Society tonight.  We thought we'd listen in as the topic is the growth of Stratford upon Avon as a Shakespeare tourist hot spot.
