Door

This is more than a glimpse of our front door which I love. It's all of it. Our house has many unique things about it but its architecture is not one of them. We replaced the original front door with a metal one from Pinky’s Iron Doors in Los Angeles. It was shipped up to Santa Rosa but arrived during the 2017 Tubbs Fire and was stored somewhere until the evacuation was lifted and we were able to track it down and have it delivered. I love the glimpses of reflections of the trees and hills in its glass. The fact that it (and the house) are still standing after the Glass fire in September 2020 is a miracle. I wonder what was reflected in these doors as the houses on either side of us burned to the ground?

The report from the doctor on John’s ankle was disappointing. The bones are slightly displaced and he must stay off it more. I think John thought he would be told he could throw away his boot and walk, although I had prepared him for the fact that that probably wouldn’t be the case. The selective hearing which screens out the sound of a wife’s voice must have kicked in again. He is NOT in a good mood. He has taken out his hearing aids, and is now applying liberal doses of beer and sulking on the sofa...

The daily report on the pandemic in the newspaper today was also not very encouraging. Another surge is predicted following spring break and the lifting of mask mandates by many states. The severity of the surge will depend on:
1) The success of the current vaccination effort
2) the dominance of COVID19 variants and
3) whether the public continues to be vigilant against the virus

Add pointless quote from our county health advisor , “I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if there was a third wave of infections. We’ll just have to see what direction we’re going...” Oh dear....I should start keeping a list of these vapid and unhelpful comments....but why?
