Nest building time

I watched a couple of starlings collecting nesting materials from my garden.  They've been arriving in early morning for the past few days so the nest must be coming on well (or I have a number of different ones visiting). Apparently they nest in groups so that is quite possible.
It's amazing how much they can cram into their beaks before flying off with it.

It's been a lovely bright day so I went for a walk along the canal and saw hardly anyone else despite the good weather. I heard and saw lots of chiffchaffs, it's always great when the first migrants arrive.  These were the first that I've heard this year.

I also saw a pair of long-tailed tits and a grey wagtail so it's been a good birdwatching day.
