Views from Blackwell Road

The dairy above
the South Thompson River does
hire the family

The weather was predicted to be rainy this morning so I chose a route to drive that would not require me to get out of the vehicle.

I drove east of the city to the community of Barnhartvale and drove east on the Blackwell Road. It is so named for a dairy farm owned and operated by the Blackwell family since 1913. It is an agricultural community evident by the number of horses, silos and tractors you can count along the way.

The road is on a bench above the South Thompson River Valley. Today it was raining around the hillsides. Martin Mountain seemed to be getting new snow. Last year's hayfields hosted Canada geese who seemed to be finding something to glean. They are heading north to their breeding grounds.

The Blackwell Dairy is the only dairy in our area. The Blackwell family lives in the immediate area as one can see by the names on the mailboxes. They are a community-minded business and have sponsored a fun run out of the local elementary school for 35 years.

The Blackwell Road is one of my favourite drives in the summer months. This is an area where the sagebrush meets the pine.

Despite the grim skies this morning, it has turned into a lovely afternoon. I should have waited to take my photos.
