Wild

Daffodils are everywhere at the moment.

But across much of the country ones like these are now uncommon, even rare.
These are the native English Daffodil, Narcissus pseudonarcissus, sometimes known as Lent lily, Easter lily and Daffydowndilly.
In the 16th. Century it was recorded as growing almost everywhere throughout England.
The great decline took place in the middle of the 19th. Century. It was not picking which caused it as that does little harm. And it was concentrated in certain regions.

Now the best places to see them in large drifts are up the Western side of the country from Devon through Herefordshire, Eastern Wales and up into the Lake District. Yes these are the same Daffodils made famous by Wordsworth.

We are lucky to have a few areas in our local patch where they can be seen on the edge of woodland and this is one of the best of them.
This was as near as I could get to this splendid group. Walls, brambles and private land meant that this had to be taken from the road..
But they made our day.
