Purple Toothwort (Lathraea clandestine) is a rare plant found beside water between March and May and in Scotland is found on mainly in the southeast near the Rivers Esk, Tyne and Tweed.  It’s a low growing plant with the purple flowers about 40 to 50 mms long and has no leaves as it is saprophytic getting its nutrients from the roots of trees in particular willows, alders and poplars and sometimes others
