Small tortoiseshell, big ivy

I was sitting in the sun waiting to see if any of the many tweeting birds would show their faces when I noticed something out of the corner of my eye. 

It looked like an orange light blinking on and off. In fact it was this Small Tortoiseshell opening and closing its wings, the only bit of colour in the severely cut-back ivy,
