Such Hard Work

Day 5 (February 27th) in the Galapagos. Today we spent the entire day visiting the island of Santiago, the fourth largest of the Galapagos Islands. We started the day with a visit to Espumilla Beach. This is where Charles Darwin landed for his longest stint on land in the Galapagos.

This is also where I saw the most amazing event of my visit to the islands. Shortly after we landed, a female Pacific Green Turtle began her long journey back to the sea after depositing eggs in her nest. She spent the previous night building the nest and laying eggs. She was so very tired and had to rest after moving just a few inches. But she kept working until she got into the water, managed to climb over some rocks and finally returned to her home in the sea.
