The Waterfront Garden (Monday 5th April 2021)

During the 'stay at home' months I have been keeping a remote eye on Marlborough's Waterfront Garden via Val's Facebook page. She has reported on the resident kingfisher, the swans and cygnets, little egrets and the much welcomed return of the water voles that were there and in the adjacent Cooper's Meadow until a few years ago, and recently, even more excitingly, otters.

I took advantage of the relaxation of the rules on Easter Monday to do a Waitrose shop and visit the Waterfront Garden. I didn't see so much as a moorhen or a mallard and Val wasn't in sight to update me either. However, I could see she had been hard at work in the Garden, which is a regular award winner, and that she tends on behalf of the council, and took a set of pictures.

These cowslips are Primula veris 'Sunset Shades'. I wonder if these bulbs were planted upside down to come up red, as Miranda1008 recently reported was a traditional belief?
