Winnings.

Darren worked today. He was feeling a bit better than yesterday which he was thankful for. He managed to get home just in time to watch the second half of Man City v Leeds. Some people don’t get sport, which is fine, but the viewing of it for Darren can at times be so thrilling that he can forget everything else that’s going on externally or more importantly how he’s feeling internally. Darren was born in Leeds so naturally he supports Leeds, he’s never understood those who support teams they have no connection to, but each to their own. I was upstairs on the bed and I heard Darren shouting “ Get in there”, which he repeated a few times, I ran down to investigate, Leeds had scored a last minute winner and for those few seconds there was an exhilaration that ran through his body, something unique to sport, if you don’t like sport it’s probably hard to understand but the feeling is real and is hard to replicate in any other way.
Of course today was also Grand national day, Darren always likes to have a little bet, and I mean little :-) he had decided earlier in the day to back Rachel Blackmore, she was riding minella times, the odds were 11/1 and Darren put on a small each way bet. Again I was upstairs and I heard Darren shouting “go on Rachel, go on Rachel” I again ran down to see what the fuss was. She won and Darren won a few pounds, not much and perhaps not enough to justify his excitement at Rachel winning, but that’s sport for you, whether it’s supporting your local team or watching a horse and jockey you’ve backed, the excitement it can sometimes induce is unlike any other feeling, it’s not always long lasting but it’s worth it, even if the buzz only lasts a short time.

We had our walk round the reservoir, it was quiet, infact we were the only ones there.
