It continually amazes me how many walks we can go on and find that, for a reasonable majority of the walk, it’s all new to us. Today was an eight mile walk from Raynes Park to Worcester Park and back. It started with a coffee and sandwich at the little food market on Cannon Hill Common. We walked to Merton & Sutton cemetery, then via Sir Joseph Hood Memorial Park and on to Worcester Park. We even took a wander round The Hamptons and up the hill of Mayflower Park from where the towers of London city can be seen. The park is built on land reclaimed from a former sewage treatment works and is surrounded with New England style housing. We looked a buying a house there once but decided against it. Just outside The Hamptons, on Green Lane, is a primary school. On the approach, the pavement protecting bollards are made to look like school pencils. I thought they looked brilliant. I wonder how many of the kids even notice?
