Porthkerry Viaduct

We went for a walk to Porthkerry in the Vale of Glamorgan and took a photograph of the viaduct there. Construction started in 1894 and in 1896 it was noticed that pier number 9 has sunk over 4 and a half feet into the ground and pier number 10 had sunk three and a half feet. Both had to be taken down. Piers number 10,11 and 12 also started to subside and had to be taken down and reconstructed. Whenever my wife and I go on the train to Cardiff, I am always very pleased when we get safely across this wonderful old structure.
