Scrawny Old Man

Northern town

Here on the edge of Nalerigu you can see several features of northern Ghana:
The houses - one a traditional northern house where each 'mud hut' is somebody's room, all surrounding a courtyard which is the kitchen and communal living area, joined by a wall that can be easily altered to add more rooms. Grass roofs. The other a combination of that and the more modern rectangular house with tin roof.
Dry and dusty ground waiting for the rain to come about April.
Some bright green weeds - they're very deep rooted and if you're building you have to go deep to get them out, otherwise they'll come up through the floor.
Guinea fowl.
Rubbish, mostly plastic bags - obtrusive, unsightly health hazard. Some African countries including Rwanda and Niger have banned plastic bags and I hope Ghana does soon.
Oh and a naked child wandering around with an exercise book.
