Green Alkanet

I’m wondering why this is called Green Alkanet? Ok I agree there’s plenty of green leaves the tiny flowers are bluish. Even more of a mystery is the fact that the plant was (or still is) used to make a red dye. A very pleasing plant.

I just love the super intensity of the green, the light of those little hairs and the little jewels of flowers. The plant was plentiful on the roadside down to Allington Lock as was Jack by the Hedge which was growing next to the Alkanet.

We drove to the other side of town to park at Waitrose to collect some more coffee supplies, walking then along the banks of the River Medway into town to collect and return some library books, have a coffee and complete a few other errands.

An afternoon Teams meeting was cancelled we took of for the allotment to finish the last bit of clearance which is proving, as it does each year, to be the hardest bit of the whole plot. This year we adopted a more radical solution by digging out a few yards of unproductive raspberry canes and a surprising number of thuggish brambles which had infiltrated into the bed.
