Blackthorn Blossom

Blackthorn is one of the first shrubs to burst into flower as early as March with a wonderful display of bright, white flowers.  These flowers were lapping up this sun this morning while much of the nearby blossom was withering.

The tree can last up to 100 years and traditionally was used for making walking sticks or shillelaghs in Ireland. The blossom is a vital source of pollen for early bees.
