When sky and water mingle

Watery Mix

when sky and water
mingle
a steam of cloud splotched
brimming blue
whirls
and swirls over rocks
blending then becoming
buoyant
with
bubbles

It's that time of year again. We took a trip on T's lunch hour to the Herring Run, a stream in a town close by where I taught Kindergarten for 26 years. It's a hot spot around this time of year as the herring(alewives) are 'running' upstream to spawn. There were only a few fish this morning, none easily photographed, but the sky reflected on the swirling water made for a lovely photograph.

Some days it pays to go on outings with my Leica SL. I love the movement, color and bubbles it artfully captured. I did wish for my old Nikon and the trusty 300mm, though. A gorgeous Great Blue Heron landed in the stream and fished for a bit. A hovering Osprey was much more successful and flew away with lunch.

I'll keep checking on the herring, you might see some shots later in the week. It really needs to be sunny to see them fighting to get upstream under water. The town has improved the fish ladder this year so it will be interesting to see if I can snap a shot of one successfully making the jump.

For the Record,
This day came in sunny with blue skies and warm temperatures, but high winds. The winds are bringing in the rain at any moment. No more blue skies.

All hands wary, but relieved.

Three Hummingbird feeders and swing ready for guests should they arrive early.
