Large bee on a wall

Apparently there are 270 varieties of bee in the UK. This is one of the larger ones. Like most laymen, I'm just assuming it's a bumblebee. So with apologies for the lack of diagnostic detail in the image, is there perhaps a bee specialist out there in Blipland who can identify this one for us?
