Al fresco

When we were in London over the weekend it was very noticeable how many places there were where you could eat outside.  Because of the Covid restrictions, many establishments had expanded their outdoor spaces, spreading across the pavements so as to be able to serve more customers.  Many of these places were very crowded (too crowded to tempt us to join in).

As I discovered today, it is not just the city centre where this is happening.  Suburban towns are also offering more outside dining than they ever did - spreading across pavements and almost on to the roads. I think the British are adapting to al fresco dining  - even if you do have to wear a warm coat to protect you from the cold winds.  I wonder whether this will be a permanent change?
