Holystone Woods

Lovely walk in Holystone Woods this afternoon, with MrM. We followed forestry tracks and narrow paths through varied woodland, that eventually led back to the road and across to Holystone Nature Reserve on the other side. The path back to the van passed close to the Holystone Burn at one point.

Many of the deciduous trees, like the beeches in the Blip, look very wintery with leaves still in tight bud. And it was forecast to be cold with temperatures in single figures. But happily it was wrong, and our jackets weren't needed!

No red flags flying, so MrM drove us home the very long way round, via the roads over the Otterburn Ranges through some of the most remote and beautiful countryside in Northumberland. Interesting that almost all of the roads in the county are full of cavernous potholes, but most of the military roads are in pristine condition with not a pothole in sight! The sun was just right as we approached Chew Green, the site of a large Roman encampment, to show it in sharp relief (extra).
