Wide Wednesday: The Architecture of Paintworks

A shot of Crest Nicholson's phase of the Paintworks development in Bristol.  About two years old now it is still looking reasonably good, although I do wonder whether some of today's developments will stand the tests of a decade of British weather let alone a century of the stuff.  As you can see it was raining, and it has been raining all day.  Given those constraints this was the best that I could manage today - rain is not the ideal weather for photography outdoors  :-)

This phase of Paintworks used to consist of several large industrial sheds used for manufacturing.  It is now a mixed development - that is to say mixed residential and commercial uses.  The commercial users tend towards the "design" side of things, so for example the offices of the RPS are just behind me.  Sadly I couldn't visit the RPS as they are not open to the public at present, covid restrictions being what they are.

The architectural brief for Phase 3 was to retain the spirit of the earlier buildings on Phase 1 of this development. where the low red brick buildings had been "regenerated" from their original industrial purposes, you can see them here.  Crest have largely succeeded in this I think.
