Churchyard Find

Up on the North Downs along the Pilgrims Way near Guildford you can find St Martha-on-th-Hill Church.  It can only be reached by an uphill walk of about 0.5 miles from a small car park, and it's another place I haven't visited before. I didn't know what I had been missing!

The Victorian church (extra) on the summit of the hill was much larger than I expected, and surrounded by a churchyard including the graves of a WWI Victoria Cross holder Bernard Freyberg, a former Governor General of New Zealand, his wife and son, who was also decorated with the Military Cross in WWII. Their final resting place had glorious views over the Surrey Hills toward the South Downs.

While the graveyard was quite sparse of vegetation, no doubt due to its exposed site, there were lots of this tiny flower dotted through the grass on around the graves. I can't be sure what is is, pobbily one of the Erodiums (Stork's Bill?), but it's joyful presence is just the job for this week's Tiny Tuesday challenge.
