The (formerly) Mighty Dollar..

I picked up some dollars today for our forthcoming trip to Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe no longer uses its own currency, but instead uses the dollar, sterling or rand.

Since when you shop you are very unlikely to get any change, it is advisable to take a lot of small currency in notes. Being a Scotsman, it therefore makes sense to use the dollar for two reasons. First because it is preferred to the pound in Zimbabwe, but second because you can use lots of one dollar bills, rather than a minimum of a five pound note. Thrifty or what?

Even though there are many economic sanctions in place, it is still perfectly possible for Zimbabwe to choose which currency it uses. Makes it easy using the dollar. It may not be as mighty as it used to be, but it is still the currency of choice in many parts of the world.
